Speech finals

It's Thursday the 24th of August, my favourite day because it's the speech finals.The speech finals are held at the library at 10:00am.

‘Oh we didn’t get the comfy chairs this time’ I complained as the speech competition starts. I’m at the speech finals because I’d been picked by Mrs May to do it. Being so excited and ready for the finals, I couldn't help but ask if I could be first, but Mrs Taylor said that the yr 3’s would be first and that I’d be last. I should've known. Too bad, anyway I get to listen to all the other ones, I say to myself.

‘Could Archie Wightman please come up’ announces Mrs Taylor. Excitement boils up inside, braveness floods through my body.  I stand up and recite my speech. As soon as I said the first word I felt OK. It was pretty good actually. It was funny and strict. At the end everyone laughs and claps. While i’m waiting for the prizegiving I listen to the other speeches. Some are good, some are bad and  some are just hilarious.

When the prize giving starts I’m confident that I’ll be first place and I am. Finally they announce the junior speech trophy.

‘You’ll get it Archie’ whispers Caitlyn and Charlotte at the exact same time. ...

“Is Archie Wightman.” I punch the air in celebration  as if I’d won the lottery I shake Mr Auld and Mrs Crawford's hands. I hope the same  happens next year.

Were in the world is Mrs may

Mrs May  has been captured by a pair of aliens from mars and been forced to win the olympics in every single sport or she will never be able to come back to Lawrence. The aliens are invisible to human eyesight, Mrs May can only see them because they gave her a pair of special invisible glasses. They are disguised as coaches so they are not caught  just in case there invisibility wears off. There plan is to get  Mrs May to win all the sports  and then they will give the money to everybody on mars (since it is earth money it will be worth heaps) and then they will become kings.Then they will rule mars and do bad things like invade earth and other planets. Once they have invaded all the planets they will take over all the universes and then they will be rulers of the universes and they will get everything to themselves.They are going to force her drugs that make her stronger, faster, smarter and better at a lot of other things to (so she is basically being forced  to cheat her way through the sports of the olympics).

fire escapeFIRE ESCAPE! AH! I yell as I wake up from my nightmare. Suddenly crumbling sounds come from the roof. I reach for the doorknob, stealthily and quietly and- CLICK! A strange clicking sound comes from the door. I touch the door, white sludgy goo forms on my hands then suddenly- BANG!!!!!!!. The door collapses as a blaze of red, orange and yellow colours dance around the room. The fire starts licking the ceiling and walls as wallpaper slowly peels off the walls. I quickly run to the side door, then the second blaze of colours appear. I quickly leap out of a open window and run to the letterbox. All the family are there. Best of all a fire truck pulls in. On Tuesday we went to Waitahuna with Room 7 and Room 4, some parents, Mrs May, Marie, Rachel and Grant Murray. When we got there, we got to meet Craig Simpson from Landcare, Keiran and Angus ( the electric fisherman), Matt from the department of conservation, Glen (from the Sinclair Wetlands) who helped with planting, 2 ladies from the Otago regional council.We planted flax along the riverbank. We had to dig a hole, then we took the plant out of the black bag, and we put it into the hole.Then we covered the hole with the mashed up dirt and stepped on the plant so that the wind couldn’t blow it out.We did it because we wanted to help the fish and eels, that live in the Waitahuna River to have a better, healthier environment to live in. The flax helps the eels ( and fish ) hide, they stop the riverbanks from breaking and sliding into the river by making them strong, and provide somewhere for the insects to live. Planting flaxes now will make the river a better environment for a long time.We got into a group with three children and one adult to dig our holes and plant our flaxes, My group was me, Charlotte, Danni and dad. The two classes planted 200 flax bushes while we were there.1,000 plants were planted in total.Also while we were there, Keiran showed us an eel he had caught overnight. He also showed us electric fishing, which is using an electric current to stun the fish, so that they can catch them and look at them more closely. He told us the bigger the fish the more effect it gave them. He showed us a brown trout and a lamprey eel that he caught earlier.Lamprey eels are very rare, and it was the first one he’d ever seen. They ate ancient fish, sometimes called a ‘sucker eel’ because they don’t have a jaw and they suck.

This is my Huntertwasser portrait.

Huntertwassers always include no necks and eyes shaped like rugby balls and always don't draw ears. They have big bold colours. 

my Modigliani

We made Modigliani's last week  this is how we made them.

1. Mrs May drew line on our paper that made it into 8 squares.
2. We drew our rough copy, Modigliani's always include long necks and big blocks of colour
3. We drew our good copy onto a piece of black paper
4. We outlined it with black pastel
5. Finally we had to color it in with pastel, we had to use solid blocks of colour and leave no gaps.

We had fun making them.

senior swimming sports

2 days ago, I (and all the year 4's) went to the senior swimming sports. All my  races were after lunch so those 2 (or 3) hours were really boring. First thing after lunch my races started. First I did my little pool races. I came last on every single race except the 1-2-3 breathe, I came 2nd last on that. I did really well on the length race, but I just missed by a bit. It was the most fun day ever (okay maybe not the most fun day ever ). Next year I would really like to do lengths in most kinds of swimming in the big pool.

This term we have been swimming every day.
I am good at backstroke and streamline. Next year I will be focusing on doing lengths.
This year I am going to the Swimming sports. I will not be doing Length races.but I will be doing width races.
I love Swimming.

athletics

Last Friday the school  did athletics day. My favorite activity was the high jump. I came 3rd at 90 centimetres. Angus came second and Tyler came 1st (leaving me 3rd) at the high jump. We did heaps of activities, some I did well and some I didn't. I did well at sprints because I'm going to South Otago athletics for them. For lunch I had two sausages. Our final activity was obstacles. It was funny because Gemma's baby Billy was DJ Billy. At the end I didn't go in the Relay. I love athletics.

My 2017 Journey

Today was my first day back in Room 4 for 2017.
