Earthquake - a story by Logan & Archie

Earthquake!
CHAPTER 1
I’m in my house watching 'Wipeout' on TV. Suddenly I feel a very big shake. The TV falls to the ground.
”Earthquake!” I shout as I dive under the table.  I see complete darkness. Suddenly I feel a soft, wet thing on my ear. I look up to see my dog licking my ear. Suddenly the table tips sideways as Rex jumps to the window. I go to the window, as I hear a crackling noise, I open the window to find...
Chapter 2
..."A PETROL CAN is ON FIRE!!” I yell, rushing away from the window.
"Logan!’’ I shout, "Stay away from the window," but I leave the window open and the fire spreads onto the curtains!! I reach for the door; shut! There is a pile of rocks blocking the door. I reach for the window; shut! We’re stuck in our house so the emergency helicopter can’t see us!! And our house is on Fire!
Chapter 3
I start to think about how to get out then I get it...we can push the door to move the rocks. I call Logan and tell him to push. We push and push until I hear a rock smash to the ground. The hinges come off the door and suddenly the door falls backwards. Rocks tumble inside,
‘It was lucky I didn’t walk forward,’ I think to myself. I run outside and wave my arms around and The helicopter sees me!
It lands and we get in. The nurse in the helicopter has a look at Logan’s leg, (because he says it hurts), it turns out it is broken.
The helicopter drops us off in Christchurch and we stay there for the rest of our lives.

The end, by Logan and Archie.

My Speech

Police shouldn’t carry (or shoot) guns. Just because someone's doing something bad does not mean they should be shot. There should be a law that says that police should not carry guns. When police carry guns it makes the situation more violent.
Police with guns cause more violence than police without guns. Countries like America have become more violent because the police are carrying guns and they are shooting people. The police end up  spreading the violence instead of solving the situation. When police carry guns it makes the situation more violent.
Sometimes people get shot and killed by the police, when they actually only need to be arrested. There have been two people in New Zealand in the last month who were killed by police. Even though the police weren’t trying to kill them, the people ended up dying. We have seen many cases in America recently where young people have shot by police who thought they were carrying guns, but they weren’t.
If the police had gone over and looked for something suspicious they could have asked the boys if they had guns, and when they didn't they would not have needed shot. I would be very sad and upset if someone in my family was shot by police. I am sure families would be very angry if their family member was shot by police for no reason. Because this is happening more often families are getting even angrier about it.
People become afraid of the police when they are carrying guns. The purpose of the police is to make everything alright and to make sure everything runs smoothly. Police are supposed to make us feel safe, but the are not really doing this. In New Zealand I would feel very safe going up to a policeman to ask for help, knowing that he was not carrying a gun. I don't think I would feel that safe if I was asking a policeman for help in America.
If New Zealand police all had guns all the time there might be more innocent people getting shot, and I would be a bit worried that they might shoot someone who didn't deserve it. We should not be scared that our police are going to shoot us.
Now you know why police should not carry guns. Carrying guns spreads violence, innocent lives could be lost and people will be afraid of the police.  Less violence will make New Zealand a peaceful country. We should not let our police carry guns.
